Creating Innovators: Introducing IP to High School Entrepreneurs
USPTO Intellectual Property Workshop for K12 Educators
Session Description:
Calling all K-12 educators. STEM, STEAM, and STREAM are vital to invention, innovation, and entrepreneurship and America's competitiveness in the global marketplace.
Do your students understand the value of patents, trademarks, and copyright, and how they can relate to their budding ventures? Are you looking for engaging ways to present these topics in the classroom? In this month’s USPTO K-12 educator workshop, Jelani Odlum, Program Manager for the Michelson Institute for Intellectual Property (IP) will provide an overview of an "IP Week" pilot and a sharing session on lessons learned for integrating IP into the curriculum.
The Office of Education at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) hosts a monthly virtual professional development workshop for K-12 educators interested in integrating intellectual property (IP), innovation, and invention activities into their STEM/STEAM curriculum. Educators will learn about different types of IP including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Sessions will be held on the last Tuesday of each month from 6:00pm to 7:30pm ET.
